#News | Lupita Nyong'o Wins her Oscar - Bitter Sweet Moment
Yes she won! Lupita Nyong'o grabbed her first Oscar for best supporting actress on Sunday, March 2 for her role as Patsey, a skilled cotton picker slave in the movie "12 Years a Slave."
Nyong'o, won the Oscar in her first feature film role, a day after her 31st birthday, beatting fellow contestant Jennifer Lawrence for the feature "American Hustle" in one of the most closely-watched Academy Award races this year.
No matter what, this win has a bitter sweet taste in our mouths. At the end of the day, here is another black actress being celebrated for playing a stereotypical role. Also, the fact that Nyong'o is receiving so much praise only confirms the rarity of such a magnificent event. The Kenyan actress did say, "No matter where you're from, your dreams are valid." So we will keep dreaming, although you really can't eat dreams.
